Repeat 2.0 Repetition Makes Perfect (Part 2) From the Life of the Beetles
April 19 to June 15, 2014
Scientists have discovered a new species of beetle in the Siberian region of Tunguska: the Tunguska scarabaeus. The special thing about this beetle is that it imitates the shape of objects in its environment. The Russian artist duo Marta Volkova and Slava Shevelenko present this discovery in their exhibition From the Life of the Beetles With beautiful ceramic replicas of the beetles, eyewitness accounts and 'scientific' drawings, they show the evolutionary potential of the beetle species. Special attention is given to a growing population of 'beetle coins'. These euro coin imitators are currently being cultivated artificially. Is this the solution to the financial crisis? From the Life of the Beetles is the second exhibition that 38CC is organizing within the annual program Repeat 2.0. Repetition makes perfect. It examines what repetition means in the visual arts today. "
