Exhibition, workshops and open mic

13-07 / 08 -09- 2024

Dream away this summer in Exhibition Space 38CC and be carried away by the personal memories and stories of six artists. Their works, depicted in textiles, ceramics, colored pencils, foam, paper, video and installations, take you on a journey through daydreams full of myths and memories. Through alienation, stillness and repetition, they invite you to dream away with them. The exhibition opens gates to other worlds, where myths come to life and dreams are explored.

The participating artists are Marit Biemans, Bobbi Cleij, Juliette Hengst, Joeri Ista, Ariane Toussaint and Noa Zuidervaart.

They not only exhibit their own work, but also organize free workshops for Delft young people during this holiday period in the exhibition at 38CC.

There is also a new edition of the open mic: Groot Spraak.

'Creating a dreamscape together'

Workshop by Bobbi Cleij and Marit Biemans

Age: from 6 years

In this workshop Bobbi Cleij invites children to bring their dreams to life on a large canvas. Together the children will draw, cut and paste a story by combining their individual dreams and fantasies into a shared dreamscape. Inspired by Marit Biemans, we make the invisible visible.

Each participant contributes to the big picture, creating a unique and colorful map, full of stories and adventures. At the end of the workshop we made a large joint drawing. Because everyone has worked on their own skin, everyone can also take their own piece of the dreamscape home.

'Make your own fabric book'

Workshop door Ariane Toussaint

Age: from 8 years

In relation to her work 'The Poetics of Space', the artist Ariane invites children to create their own story and convert it into a fabric book. With this workshop the artist conveys her love for working with fabrics. The participants use their imagination to come up with a unique story and illustrate this story on fabric. They will then use a needle and thread to transform the fabric into a beautiful fabric book, a work of art that they can take home.

Wednesday July 24

'Etch your dream flight'

Workshop door Joeri Ista

Age: from 10 years

Have you ever dreamed that you could fly? Or that you could swim among the fish and sharks? During this drypoint etching workshop, Joeri Ista introduces children to etching on plexiglass. In this workshop, participants will make a self-portrait in a fantasy dream world, where nothing is too crazy. The children draw their design on a plexiglass plate of various sizes. After engraving the drawing, the plates are provided with etching ink and carefully cleaned. Finally, the etched works are printed on etching paper. You can take these unique prints home!

Thursday July 25

'Foam animals from an old sofa'

Workshop by Juliette Hengst

Age: from 8 years

In this adventurous workshop we will demolish upholstered chairs with hammers, crowbars, pliers and possibly a demolition hammer. From the resulting textile, leather, foam and pieces of wood/hardboard we create works of art with nails and iron wire, just like Juliette Hengst does. The children are encouraged to let their imaginations run wild and imagine what animals or figures could live in a bank. Maybe it's an animal hiding in the couch, or someone who spends too much time on the couch and has turned into foam. At the end of the workshop, the children go home with their own foam figure!

Wednesday July 31

''The Fable Figures Factory'

Workshop by Noa Zuidervaart

Age: from 6 years

Did you know that dragons are made of the scales of a snake, the wings of a bat and the claws of a bird of prey? And have you ever heard of the sphinx? That is a mythical animal with the body of a lion and the head of a human. In fairy tales, myths and your own dreams you will find countless fantasy creatures! During the workshop 'The Fable Figure Factory', the children go on an adventurous treasure hunt to discover the magical worms by artist Noa Zuidervaart, hidden in the exhibition at 38CC. The participants then work with other children and the artist to create their own dream creature. We think about what the self-invented animal is called, what it eats and where it lives. At the end of the workshop, everyone goes home with a new fantasy friend made from clay!
